Art is Dangerous
Artists on Injustice and Inequality
Sussel Gallery
Calling out injustice and inequality where they have found it, these artists call us IN as witnesses to pay attention, to notice what previously we have not, and to engage with empathy. By doing this, we invite and accept one of the most dangerous risks we can face: the possibility that we may change our minds, and in doing so, may take action.

Weiting Wei: Inner Power
Weting Wei
January 28 – May 3, 2025
Burton D. Morgan Gallery
In my recent artworks, I draw inspiration from the natural forms of organisms and integrate them into sculptures crafted from polymer clay. My artworks invite viewers to explore hidden complexities within the monochromatic surfaces.

Passages: Tales of a Snow Migrant
Claudia Esslinger
September 3 – December 6, 2024
Morgan Gallery
This work combines concerns about the ever-present climate emergency with a focus on the human cost of that devastation. Through it Esslinger hopes we will consider the human migrant driven by climate change with empathy and action.

Our Disappearing Darkness
A Meditation on Losing the Night
MJ Sharp
September 3 – December 6, 2024
Sussel Gallery
A vanishingly small percentage of our evolutionary time as human beings has been spent in artificial light. When we are robbed of darkness—from seeing the night sky that fueled the world’s mythologies to experiencing our own creaturely human adaptation to the dark— what are we missing?

Rachel Rose: Lake Valley
March 28, 2023- May 14, 2023
Burton D. Morgan Gallery
Balancing notions of tedium, adventure, abandonment, and companionship, Lake Valley presents a colorful world of fantastic visuals and familiar emotions to tell the story of a pet that leaves its family’s suburban home to look for friendship in an ethereal landscape.

Essential Matter
January 17, 2023- April 2, 2023
Sussel Gallery
The artists in this exhibition have strategically sourced and transformed the materials from which their work was made. In each case, the meaning of the artwork hinges on this process—none of them could be composed from wholly new materials. Their essential origins and fundamental characteristics are carried through into new creations
